What about hepa air filters?

Most of the particles in the air that cause allergy, asthma, and other respiratory problems are between the size of 0.01 and 0.3 microns.  The hepa air filters are not effective at collecting particulates as small as 0.3 microns, but negative ions and ozone can effectively take particulates as small as 0.01 microns out of the air.

Why negative ions and low-level ozone?

Negative ions and ozone are known as nature's gift and give us the most powerful air-cleansing process available. There is nothing in the world more effective than taking allergens and contaminates out of the air we breathe.

Negative ions and ozone are created by nature, and found at their highest levels where the air is most pure and healthy. Typically where lightning has just occurred, crashing waves by the ocean shore, in the mountains, near waterfalls, and open meadows.

What are negative ions?

Negative ions are electrically-charged particles in the air that remove airborne contaminates from the air we breathe, and have a rejuvenating effect when interacting with physiological systems (such as the respiratory system).

Have you ever noticed how refreshing the air is when you are in the mountains, by the ocean or a waterfall? And how revitalized you feel?

The reason for this is that there are usually around 2,000 negative ions per cubic centimeter in these environments compared to the couple of hundred negative ions per cubic cm. in the normal indoor environment.

Indoor environments lack the electrical "nutrients of the air" that we need because of today's "air-tight" homes and buildings preventing them from treating the air inside trapping the airborne contaminates allergens and pollutants, aggravating allergies and other breathing problems such as asthma, chronic respiratory, cardiovascular illness and immune system diseases.

Homes and buildings in urban areas and other places where the earth is covered by mostly concrete and asphalt tend to disturb the air's electrical balance where they reside.

Most floating contaminates and allergens are positively charged, and negative ions are negatively charged. In environments where high amounts of negative ions exist, they are able to reverse the charge of floating contaminates to a negative charge.

These negative ions attach themselves to the airborne toxins and drop them to the surface.  Ions basically take out the larger pollutants in the air.

Negative ions destroy many of these air pollutants giving us the sense of well-being.  Most people can’t explain the renewed sense of well-being, however there is a logical explanation.  All of this is due to the amount of negative ions in the air around us.  Prior to a thunderstorm, a very high concentration of positive ions exists in the air.  They tend to be pollutants such as dust, bacteria, pollen, chemicals, ect.  The storm releases electrical discharges consisting of high concentrations of negative ions.  Negative ions destroy many of these air pollutants, giving us a sense of well-being.

Ultraviolet Light Air Purification

Ultraviolet light-rays are generated by the sun and are one of nature’s methods of purifying the air.  Ultraviolet light-rays of specific wave lengths are germicidal and will strike and destroy viruses, bacteria, and fungi.  The ultraviolet component of the sunlight is the main reason microbes die in the outdoor air.  The ultraviolet energy used by ultraviolet lamps, however, is a much more concentrated and powerful level of ultraviolet energy than found in sunlight.  UV light has been used for many years by the medical field to sanitize rooms and equipment.  Ultraviolet light sanitizes air that is passed directly in its path.  Ultraviolet germicidal lamps can destroy any microorganism that comes in contact with its powerful rays.  This method is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control for its germicidal effects.

Is Ozone Safe?

Proof of its safety and usefulness at moderate concentrations has prevailed in hearings before the FTC. Plus, millions of ozone air purifiers have been sold in the United States over the years, but there are no specific cases where an ozone air cleaner has been linked to any kind of injury or harm. 

The highly reactive qualities of ozone is why it is such a powerful and efficient cleaner and purifier.  Ozone will react with almost anything, including chemical sources of unpleasant or hazardous indoor odors.  Bacteria, mold and mildew, pet odors, many cooking odors, ect. are destroyed when they react with ozone.

One of the most important properties of ozone is that it has a very short lifespan.  The lifespan is called a “half-life”.  The half life of ozone is approximately 20 to 30 minutes.  This means that half of the ozone created will break down and return to oxygen in approximately 20 to 30 minutes depending on temperature, humidity and the amount of contaminates in the air or on the surfaces that the ozone has to counteract.  In other words, strong odors or pollutants will use more ozone and light odors will require less.  If ozone can’t find a contaminant to work on, it simply reverts to oxygen.
